The difference between 2 setups. There is pro and contra on both setup.. both is useable. My setup benefit is cleaner FICD for long lasting operation but its a bit noisy when it sucks air. The e-kereta forum setup is silent operation but the hose is for head cam ventilation and a lot of oil vapour will accumulate in FICD which will affect its operation.  DIY - Install FICD  (71)

15th Dec 2009DIY - Change Belt - Alternator, Power Steering & A/c Compressor
Weird shrieking noise from your engine? most probably it comes from your worn out belt. It wise to change all three belt.

For Mitsubishi 4G13, these are the belt number:
Alternator Belt 4PK870
A/C Compressor Belt 3340
Power Steering Belt 4PK595

Its quite difficult to reach the nut with my wrench, I have to be really calm to loose the tensioner.

Each belt itself cost no more than MYR20, its really cheap.
11th Oct 2009DIY - Throttle body tips - Last Resort Repair - Experiment
This is my last resort on attempt to save my money rather than buying a new MMC throttle body which would cost a bomb. I do this on my spare TB. The ISC servo gear eventhough have fitted with brand new gear, still, the rev high low happened. The black electronic thingy at the bottom just melt. Common sign for MMC TB failure. I know nuts about other type of TB, but if you TB dont have bypass idle screw, you may need FICD to adjust your idle.

I dismantled completely ISC, and planning to use only the upper part of TB (butterfly valve) only. Seal it off completely.

If this succesfull, I will save a lot of money in the long run. Imagine, TB tend to go haywire every 2 years and most people(incl me) change to a new one.

500km driving after installation, it seems just like ISC is still there, no significant difference at all in driving. I am really satisfied. Planning to find better way to seal the TB rather than using Fibreglass. Maybe should do a bit off metal work.

Pro: Save a lot of money.

Cons : Rough idle at cold start (500 rpm), but thats just for 1-2 minutes.

Conditions in order to do this DIY:
1. Since there is no ISC, you have to bypass coolant hose
2. Install FICD to compensate additional air for Aircond.
11th Oct 2009DIY - Throttle body tips - Cheap Oil Catch Tank
Im sure you will come across with a container called Oil Catch Tank. There is a lot them in the market. Some aftermarket OCT cost about hundreds of ringgit.

Originally, the oil fumes burning will stain the Throttle Body Butterfly Valve.

The OCT wont improve performance, its just a filter that catch oil fumes from PCV Valve and avoid it to be burned in the Intake Manifold.

This OCT can be DIY effectively with not more than MYR 20.

Thank to KHGuan for this remarkable DIY.

http://khguan.fotopic.net/c976027.html

Pros : Longer interval for TB cleaning.

Cons : None.
11th Oct 2009DIY - Throttle body tips - Breather Hose Mods
The breather hose is originally for ventilation of Valve Cam and sometimes under high pressure, the oil vapour will go to intake. This will stain the Throttle Body Butterfly Valve.

The breather hose modification were designed to catch Engine Oil Vapour.

My design just used merely a petrol filter and hose which would cost less than MYR 20.

The alternative design yet effective by KHguan is here.
http://khguan.fotopic.net/c976027.html

Pros : Longer interval for TB cleaning.

Cons : None
11th Oct 2009DIY - Throttle body tips - Coolant Hose Bypass
The coolant basically goes through your Throttle Body to heat it up for easy starting and avoid the plate to freeze up when in the winter.

For my car and my country hot climate, I dont need those features. So, no coolant hose will connected to my TB. Hopefully, my TB stay a bit cooler and less tendency to melt my TB ISC chips.

I get this remarkable idea from KHguan.

Pros : ISC chips runs cooler
Less ISC wear and tear

Cons : Engine warm up takes more time.
11th Oct 2009DIY - Throttle body tips - Replace ISC Servo Gear
Now your car seems to rev up and down when idle, but when you drive, everthing is just fine. So the problem most probably is the Throttle Body Idle Speed Control.

This DIY cover on replacing bad ISC servo gear that may cause the idle problem.

Cost:
Servo Kit RM 30
28th Sep 2009DIY - Gapped Hood
Release the hot air in the engine bay effectively. Cheap method if you cant afford to buy expensive aftermarket air vent. The gap should be minimal, and not too large. Remember, I want to minimize the rain splash into engine bay, but at the same time, releasing more hot air.
Thank you Protonman (http://z3.invisionfree.com/WiseAutoClub/index.php?act=idx) for the brilliant idea.
Cost:
Few washer, Large Nuts and 12mm bolt. RM 2

Pros:
Cooler engine bay.
Prolong useable life of hose, wire insulation, plastic, rubber parts in engine bay.
Somehow, stronger air cond blows.
Cooler air for Air Filter.

Cons:
Water splash can enter engine bay easily.
Do not looks awesome like air vent.
Your wife may dont like this idea.
12th Aug 2009DIY - Install Open Pod Air Filter
Open Pod Air Filter allow more air than stock air filter, but at the cost of less filteration. Rule of the thumb, more air and less filteration and vice versa.

You may need to clean the filter more frequent to ensure optimum reliability and shorten the engine oil change interval.
I also really dont know whether it is permissable by JPJ or not.

Cost:
Open Pod Air Filter MYR 28
Sweetened Milk Can MYR 0
Total Cost MYR 28

Benefit:
Greater pickup.
Engine roar effect.
Higher top speed.

12th Aug 2009DIY - Install FICD
Ever experienced engine stall with air-conditioner on when you car slow down? What if its happen at the moment when you in a middle of U-turn? I bet your heart will pounding rapidly.

FICD (Fast Idle Control Device) is a little device that will help you with this problem. The concept is, this device will allow vaccum leak by allowing more air into intake manifold hence engine have enough air and wont stall. Its also stabilize idle and drive will feel a little bit lighter with a/c on. For the one who familiar with valves, FICD is simply a normally closed solenoid valve.

The air filter will suck air in engine bay, there is another FICD setup which suck air from Air Intake, but IMHO, it will somehow impart the Air Intake system itself. Its just like sharing and grasp the same air, imagine when WOT.. This is the other FICD setup:

12th Aug 2009DIY - Swapping 1.3 Wira Meter with Lancer
This manual emphasize more on wiring of Lancer meter. Both meter use same socket but the wiring location in the socket is different. It really took me some time and burn some fuse before actually get it done. Hope this will helps all Lancer fan.

Benefit:
Lancer meter is less likely to ruin, not like Wira meter. The panel also a lot brighter at night.
2nd Aug 2009DIY - Change Power Steering Fluid
There is a lot of myth saying that Power Steering is lasting with the cars life, the fact is, an oil, eventually will degrade, contaminate and slowly losing their lubricant properties. A dirty lubricant wont protect metal parts from friction and will lead to premature failure.

Changing power steering oil is an easy job to do, and it wont make a mess like changing engine oil.

This routine need to be done yearly or every 30000km, whichever comes first.

Item Used:
1.Top1 ATF Dexron 3- 2 quarts--MYR 12/quart
TOTAL---MYR 24

Tools:
1.Shower Pump
2.A piece of rag
3.Harddisk Magnet

28th Apr 2009DIY-Install Gas Bonnet/Hood Lifter
There is a number of reasons that why people switch from conventional bonnet stand to modern bonnet gas lifter. And for me, I just replaced it because I need more space to do my work around the engine bay. Its also looks cool. At first glance I thought the installation is quite difficult but after read the manual, I can do it rightaway on my own.

Parts involved:
KOMO Bonnet Gas Lifter - bought it from KH Guan (khguan.fotopic.net) for just MYR 50 (13/04/2009)

Tool:
A set of wrench.
6th Apr 2009DIY-Palm Oil As Engine Oil-Part Two
After succesfully tested the Palm Oil on Motorcycle, Its time to test it in my car. Its proven in many test conduct by public and I am not worried at all. Its lubricate even better than mineral type of oil.

And this website is now currently active for people who seek answers on Palm Oil.

http://www.carigold.com/portal/forums/showthread.php?t=59680&goto=newpost

Before this test, I have already tested the palm oil in my car before but at this percentage ; 50% Mobil 1 Mineral Oil and 50% Palm Oil, but I dont feel any difference at all, either good or bad.

Now, this test if for 100% Palm Oil, no additive pour in.

Difference : My engine runs quieter and smoother, no more loosen valve lash (teppet) sound like before. But still I have to tighten up the valve lash.

Special credit to ExAvantz, pak itam, and other Carigold members who fight for this truth.

Item Used:
1.Cheap Oil Filter---MYR 5
2.Genuine Proton Oil Filter---MYR 8
3.Saji Cooking Oil---MYR 12.90
4.ATF 1 Litre---MYR 15 gonna use kerosene/diesel next time
TOTAL---MYR 40.90
5th Feb 2009DIY-Car Meter Odometer Repair
My 9 year old Proton Wira have meter problem. Sometimes the odometer number moving and rolling and most of the time, it doesn't move at all. So I am having hard time to record my mileage for maintence purpose.

The odometer gear and number itself cost about MYR 150, too expensive for few piece of plastics gear and number, I need money to support my family. So, I decided to repair it, last resort.
1st Feb 2009DIY-Palm Oil As Engine Oil-Part One
Many Malaysian starts to use Palm Oil as their engine oil eventhough there is no solid evidence and scientific research that palm oil have good lubricant properties. Countless positive testimonies from the 'experimenters' have shown that palm oil is indeed can be use as engine oil and no one can deny that. But, still many question waiting for an answer. Viscocity, detergent ability, heat absortion, syntetic level, oxidation, mileage expiry, et cetera.
There are also daredevil experimenters who use it in their luxury cars and drive at contant 240kmh for a hundreds of km travel, some even claim great pick up, fuel save, cooler engine temp, quieter engine and so on.
Well, sceptical me did some googling and found that the palm oil contain esther, a perfect lubricant that NASA use as rocket lubricant.
I wonder though, is there any Goverment Personnel interested to research the fact???

After join this forum, (http://www.carigold.com/portal/forums/showthread.php?t=59680), I finally decide to test it my self. The test subject is Modenas Kriss 100 4 strokes (errr, not mine actually). :)

19th Jan 2009DIY-Fixing Rubber Door Seal
When close your door, does it sound like a tin can, eg'tang'sound, rather than 'thoop' sound. Well, this is due to hardened and crack rubber door seal which will not absorb impact when door is closed and sould like metal meet metal. Actually, this is the tip to remedy this problem.

29th Jan 2008DIY Voltage Stabilizer
My 1st attempt on building Voltage Stabilizer. Its very simple.
Not gonna hurt your wallet too. All electronic components use in this project is also dirt cheap.
You can also increase the good effect by combine it with thick, low resistance grounding cables.

Interesting article to read about commercial voltage stabilizer.

Software to calculate Resistor Value when I am using LED:
1.http://www.mediafire.com/file/ktiddm3zqyv/led_pro.exe
2.http://www.mediafire.com/file/jninhjl5gzi/LIRCv2.exe

Point to ponder : This VS may smooth out rough idle, but other effect are very minimal, not really significant. Dont trust VS marketing hype out there.

Maybe the capacitor that I use dont hold as much charge as I need. Thus, I have found out that electric double layer capacitors (EDLC) hold more charge and I think that, EDLC will make a damn very good VS. Still researching on this EDLC....
